Healing valves Ethiopia(HVE) performed the first successful life saving heart surgery for an 18 years old boy from Kofele. In collaboration with Tazma specialized
hospital a complete local Heart team of voluntary experts did the first RHD life saving surgery on 04/21/2021.
The young boy who was a rank student until 8th grade stopped his school because of his illness. His heart valves were severely damaged due to repeated tonsillitis. He underwent a successful one valve replacement (mitral) and the other repaired(tricuspid).
HVE works to alleviate the burden of severe of form of RHD in Ethiopia by doing 50 life saving heart surgery every year. Young children through out the country with severe forms of RHD living in poverty and can’t afford paying for heart surgery will be HVE target. In doing so we aspire to decrease incapacitating complications like stroke, limb amputation and early death.
