Just 26 years old, Hikma has carried the burden of Rheumatic Heart Disease for as long as she can remember. Her body, frail from years of pain and exhaustion, speaks louder than words about the suffering she has endured.
This week, Hikma became the 38th patient to receive a life-saving heart surgery through the generosity of the Ethiopian diaspora community in St. Louis. Their compassion, combined with the skill and dedication of Dr. Fekede Agwar and the entire surgical team, has given her a second chance at life.
Hikma is now in the ICU, recovering well, her fragile heart beating stronger with each passing hour. To those who made this possible, your support is not just healing hearts, it’s saving lives.
